The Sporting News’ Russ Lande takes an early look at the players he feels are the Top 10 Draft prospects heading into the 2008 season.

Like any year 2008’s college season will feature several key players making their comebacks from 2007 injuries. Dave Curtis at the Sporting News provides a list of players, like USC’s Josh Pinkard and LSU DT Charles Alexander, who are trying to rekindle their draft standings, and the impacts they’ll have on their respective teams.

According to Tom Rock of Newsday the Giants could possibly receive a 2009 1st-round pick from the New Orleans Saints IF Jonathan Vilma, who the Saints acquired from the NY Jets, plays 85% of the defensive plays in 2008 and is signed to a contract extension. This scenario would give the Jets New Orleans’ 2009 2nd-rounder - a pick already traded to the Giants for TE Jeremy Shockey - and turn the 2nd and 5th-round picks the Saints traded to the Giants for Shockey into a single 1st-round selection.

The long awaited trade of New York Giants TE Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints finally went down this afternoon. In return for the man who many feel kept Eli Manning from being all he could be was sent to the Big Easy in exchange for a 2nd and 5th round pick in 2009.
